ORDAINED CHAPLAIN

Role title - Ordained Chaplain (voluntary)

Accountability

Ordained Chaplains will work closely with the Colwyn Bay Chaplaincy Steering Group and will report/be accountable to that body

Purpose of Role

  • to represent the churches of Colwyn Bay and Rhos in the town centre and raise their profile in the retail and business community, but not advocate any one individual church
  • to develop a Christian presence in C wyn Bay town centre
  • to establish and develop good relationships in the town centre
  • to offer a chaplaincy-visiting role to the retail and business community
  • to be compassionate in approach to people and to offer Christian ministry where appropriate
  • to offer support to a company if a member of staff is injured or dies
  • to occasionally lead religious services eg carol services or memorial services
  • to make arrangements if appropriate to visit staff who are ill, either at home or in hospital and to offer care and support to families and friends
  • to lead/work with a small team of lay chaplains 
  • to be available to people of all faiths and none
  • to pray regularly for the workforce and for situations and members of staff in need

    Essential

  • Applicants must be from a church in good standing with Wales Cytûn/CTBI
  • Have good interpersonal skills and be a good listener
  • Be self-motivated, flexible, non-judgemental and have pastoral sensitivity

    Terms and Conditions

  • Flexible hours for one year with a review after 12 months
  • Opportunity to continue subject to a review after 12 months, and as agreed with the Chaplaincy Steering Group
  • Holiday cover to be negotiated with lay colleagues
  • Obligation to abide by Health & Safety rules of organisations visited 

  • Any appointment is subject to:

  • Satisfactory references
  • the usual DBS checks
  • 3-month probationary period and notice period of 1 week
  • One month’s notice of termination from the Chaplaincy Steering Group.

    Remuneration

  • The post is voluntary, but agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be paid. An Honorarium may be negotiated.
  • Allowance made for telephone calls, travel and occasional hospitality
  • Further training in consultation with the Chaplaincy Steering Group
